Meet the Team

Melinda Mason - Partner

Melinda started her career in the law in Christchurch at the firm of Barker and Associates in 1999, later moving to and practising in Auckland. Melinda now loves and lives in Franklin and this contributed to her decision to team with the partners of Mason Treloar Harvey to start this firm. From there, the partnership shifted, and became Mason & Mortimer.

Practising in a general practice meant gaining a wide breadth of experience in a number of areas. From that Melinda was able to understand where her passions in the law stood. Melinda is our Property law and litigation specialist. She has conducted trials in all categories, in particular, serious crime. She is able to give advice on property and litigation matters from an experienced perspective.

In addition Melinda has worked in resource management, military and employment law sectors and enjoys the challenge and excitement that focus in these areas can provide. Melinda promises to commit herself to finding the best outcomes for whatever legal issues you have within her speciality field.

Maria Mortimer - Partner

Maria joined with Melinda Mason to form Mason and Mortimer Lawyers in 2019 and runs the Mangere Bridge practice.

Maria’s passion for justice underpins her attitude to all areas of Law. Maria started her career in the area of relationship property agreements and disputes and has represented clients in cases in District and High Courts throughout New Zealand. She provides legal representation to clients for both privately funded matters and legally aided cases.

Maria is a passionate advocate for her broad range of clients and has a special interest in disadvantaged litigants, being an effective and dedicated advocate on their behalf.

Maria’s experience, knowledge and natural affinity with clients who are seeking justice and assistance through a difficult time has established her reputation as an accomplished advocate. Her skilful representation coupled with an in-depth knowledge of her expert areas achieves the best outcomes for her clients.

Lily Ryken - Solicitor

Lily is based in our Pukekohe office and specialises in the areas of criminal law and general practice.

Lily enjoys defending clients and assisting them through all stages of the criminal justice process. Lily believes it is important to provide clients with frank and robust advice about the strengths and weaknesses of their case. She believes strongly in the principles of liberty, social justice and the presumption of innocence.

Lily also enjoys assisting clients with general practice matters such as, residential conveyancing, Wills, Trusts, Estate Administration and Enduring Powers of Attorney. She believes it is important to provide clients with practical advice in these areas of law. If you are purchasing a property, Lily can assist you to complete a Kiwi Saver First Home Withdrawal Application, Home Start Grant Application and Superannuation Application. She can also assist you in drafting a new will or updating an existing one, as well as providing advice about whether a trust might be beneficial to your particular circumstances.

Lily graduated from the University of Otago in 2016 with a double degree in both Law (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts (History major). She began her legal career as a criminal defence lawyer at one of New Zealand’s largest criminal law firms. In 2019, Lily joined Mason & Mortimer Lawyers because she wanted to expand her area of legal expertise and gain experience in the various areas of general practice.

Isabella Nathan

Isabella Nathan - Solicitor

Izzy joined the Mason and Mortimer team in the Mangere Bridge office in 2021 and specialises in general practice.  Originally from the Bay of Islands, Izzy moved to Auckland to pursue her studies at the University of Auckland and graduated with a Bachelor of Law and Arts (Criminology) in 2020. 

Izzy provides a broad range of legal services including conveyancing and property matters, estate planning and wills, enduring powers of attorney, agreements (property sharing and relationships), trust matters and general legal enquiries. Izzy has a special interest in criminal law, and helps out on criminal law matters from time to time. Izzy is a supervised provider for criminal legal aid services.

Izzy believes that strong on-going client relationships are the epitome of good practice. Izzy always provides quality legal advice catered to clients particular circumstances. Izzy enjoys being part of a local law firm and providing quality services to the community. 

Adele Mulcahy - Legal Executive

Adele is a registered Legal Executive practising from our Mangere Bridge Office.

Adele has worked in law firms and with sole practitioners for over 38 years and as a result has a wide range of experience.

Adele specialises in: Residential Conveyancing, Estate Planning including preparation of Wills and Enduring Powers of Attorney, Estate Administration and Company Incorporation.

Deanna Steven - Office Manager

Based out of our Pukekohe office, Deanna is one of the many friendly faces and voices of the Mason and Mortimer team.   

Deanna brings 20 years of experience in working in customer service and administration manager roles.

Deanna is excited to be a part of the team and looks forward to meeting you if you visit our Pukekohe office. 

Darcel Andrews - Law Clerk

Darcel has recently completed her LLB at the University of Auckland. Darcel has successfully completed the Professional Legal Studies Course at College of Law and is now awaiting her admission to the bar.

Darcel works with Criminal matters and assists our lawyers with Court preparation. Darcel is a keen criminal justice advocate and animal lover.

Wendy Mayer - Receptionist

Wendy Mayer is our friendly and welcoming receptionist at our Mangere Bridge office.

She will point you in the right direction and assist you in your initial consultation. Wendy has many years experience in Customer Service and has previously worked in Law firms in Auckland central and Taupo.
