Meet the Team

Maria Mortimer - Director

Maria formed Mason and Mortimer Lawyers in 2019 and established the Mangere Bridge practice.

Maria’s passion for justice underpins her attitude to all areas of Law. Maria started her career in the area of relationship property agreements and disputes and has represented clients in cases in District and High Courts throughout New Zealand. She provides legal representation to clients for both privately funded matters and legally aided cases.

Maria is a passionate advocate for her broad range of clients and has a special interest in disadvantaged litigants, being an effective and dedicated advocate on their behalf.

Maria’s experience, knowledge and natural affinity with clients who are seeking justice and assistance through a difficult time has established her reputation as an accomplished advocate. Her skilful representation coupled with an in-depth knowledge of her expert areas achieves the best outcomes for her clients.

Averil McIntyre - Lawyer

Averil Mcintyre is our intermediate criminal defence lawyer for both legally aided and private clients. Averil was admitted to the bar in 2018. She has a Master of Laws in criminal law and a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours) from AUT. Averil has PAL2 legal aid approval and has appeared as lead counsel in jury trials and high court appeals. Averil can assist on a range of charges from low level driving charges to jury trial matters. She has a particular passion in discharge without conviction applications at sentencing.

Christopher Hodgson - Lawyer

Christopher is the a key member of the firm’s legal team and works primarily in criminal defence. Christopher graduated from AUT with a Bachelor of Laws and was admitted to the Bar in 2025. He is passionate about courtroom advocacy and takes pride in crafting strong, well-reasoned arguments—particularly where technical legal defences are involved. Christopher is dedicated to ensuring that every client receives the best possible outcome, and he works hard to make the process as straightforward and stress-free as it can be.

Mataiasi To'ofohe - Lawyer

Mataiasi comes to the firm with a wealth of knowledge and experience from his time in Wellington and through his pro-bono work towards his community. He completed his undergraduate degrees at the University of Auckland and during his studies he helped organising several mentoring and outreach programmes at local schools in South Auckland. Mataiasi looks after all civil matters at our firm and is passionate to assist clients with understanding legal concepts and providing high level advice on a range of matters.

Adele Mulcahy - Legal Executive

Adele is a Legal Executive.

Adele has worked in law firms and with sole practitioners for over 40 years and as a result has a wide range of experience.

Adele specialises in: Residential Conveyancing, Estate Planning including preparation of Wills and Enduring Powers of Attorney, Estate Administration and Company Incorporation.

Sharon Lockhart-Beattie - Office Administrator

A Mangere Bridge local, Sharon is the newest addition to our team. Sharon is the first point of contact for our clients and works closely with our team of lawyers. She draws from her experience working in UK Law Firms and the NZ Private Sector along with her drive to deliver a positive client experience.

Christy Ale - Filing Clerk

Christie Ale is the youngest member of our team currently a second year doing a design degree. Christie keeps our filing system up to date and ensures all our records are complete and easily accessible. Christie is our secret weapon at quzzes with amazing knowledge of music even before she was born.
